Program Overview
Students gain experience in medical-surgical nursing, obstetric nursing, pediatric nursing, geriatric nursing, acute care settings, long-term care settings, and community settings. The curriculum covers personal, family, and community concepts, nutrition, human growth and development throughout the lifespan, body structure and function, mental health concepts, pharmacology and medication administration, legal aspects of practice, and interpersonal relationship skills.
Throughout the practical nursing program, students are required to demonstrate competencies in content areas to progress in the program. Student proficiency will be assessed with the use of quizzes, exams, return demonstration of laboratory skills, home study modules, research papers, written assignments, and clinical evaluations using standard problem-based scenario exercises and/or skills demonstration in the practice setting.

Program Requirements
General Admission
- Present a valid picture ID. The applicant must be 18 years of age. If the applicant is less than 18 years of age, a parent/guardian signature is required to enroll the student in the program
- Applicants must present evidence of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Applicants who do not have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent must demonstrate the ability to learn from the program of instruction by receiving a score of a 20 on the Wonderlic Test
Additional Admissions For Practical Nursing
- Take the HESI Entrance Exam with a passing score of 50% or higher
- A minimum overall HESI score of 50 with at least 50% in Reading and 50% in Math is required for PN program
- Results must be less than 2 years old with at least 30 days between attempts and a maximum of 4 attempts in one calendar year
Requirements Prior To Clinical Rotations
- Provide proof of current certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Affiliated Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card with Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers
- A written certification from a physician that the student is in good health and able to participate in clinical rotations is required during the admission process
